What are We Writing About?
From Dan Silva, Editor-in-Chief of ZOVA Books: “Since ZOVA Books publishes a range of genre fiction, I would like to see what interested writers can do with a writing prompt. Each submission does NOT need to conform to a specific genre, but should demonstrate the writer’s creative abilities to entertain readers. Make it imaginative!”
The Prompt: The red flashing lights on the control panel told him/her that something wasn’t quite right.
Each story should begin with the prompt and continue with each author’s take on where the story should go.
What’s the Word Limit?
Authors have 500 glorious words (or less) to spin their yarn.
What’s the Deadline?
The Contest starts on Monday June 18, 2012 at Noon PST. The Contest ends on Monday June 25, 2012 at Noon PST.
Is There a Fee to Enter This Contest?
There is NO fee to enter this contest.
What are the Contest Prizes?
ZOVA Books selects three winners. Each winner is awarded three exciting prizes:
- Each winning entry is published on the ZOVA Books and Storiad sites.
- Each of the three winning authors are invited to submit a completed manuscript of their choosing to ZOVA Books for publication consideration. Please note that publication is NOT guaranteed to any of the three winners.
- Regardless of whether any of the manuscripts are chosen for publication, each submitted manuscript receives a detailed critique by the Editor-in-Chief of ZOVA Books.
When are the Winners Announced?
Winners are announced publicly on Monday, July 02, 2012 at Noon PST on the ZOVA Books and Storiad sites (and their respective social media outlets). Winners are notified privately beforehand by ZOVA Books.
What’s the Submission Process?
Contest submissions are only accepted through Storiad. Here’s how:
- New to Storiad? Click here or on “Sign Me Up!” below. Already a Storiad member? Skip to Step #4.
- On the sign-up page, provide basic information to create a Storiad account
- Inside Storiad, create a profile to introduce yourself to ZOVA Books.
- Ready to upload your Contest submission? Click on the “Projects” tab
- Inside “Projects”, click on “Add New Project” link
- Upload your Contest submission as a .doc or .pdf document [.pdf is preferred]
- Important: In the “Tags” field, enter zbshort to identify your uploaded file as a ZOVA Books contest submission.
- Click “Save Project”
That’s it! You are now officially entered into the ZOVA Books Short Fiction Contest.
