I write because I have things to say. I have stories to tell, and voices that need to be heard. I write because it's something I love, and something I can see myself doing for a living for the rest of my life. I write to help others write better, and to inspire new writers to start.
All of the following have inspired me: Robin McKinley, Anne McCaffrey, Neil Gaiman, George RR Martin, NK Jemisin, Carl Sagan, Tim Cahill, Jim Butcher, Cassandra Clair, Jane Yolen, all those classics of literature I read in undergrad, Dooce.com, Girl Genius, Hellboy, Roald Dahl, 80s fantasy movies, X-Files, The Cure, Rasputina, david Bowie, Mark Morford, Doctor Who, Steven Moffet, JJ Abrams, all the wonderful people at ICFA, Joss Whedon, Michio Kaku, Neil Degrasse Tyson
I used to be a pantser–someone who wrote when the inspiration hit and rode it along without any pre-planning. I don't think I'm a full-on planner yet, but I'm learning the benefits of having an idea where I'm going. I write every day, whether it's good or not, generally in a straight line, and I like to have a complete first draft before I revise.
I work best under deadlines, and have missed very few in my career. I'm known for performing miracles at the last second.
I thoroughly enjoy editing, which is why I do so much of it for other people, and I think the purpose of a good edit is to take the story and elevate it to where it needs to be. No first draft is perfect, but a good edit can make it look effortless, like that first draft was ideal.
Post publication, I'll tell everyone I know about something. I blog, and I'm active on Twitter and Facebook. I would love to do a tour, but a blog tour would be easier to manage.
I'm a member of the Seton Hill Masters in Fine Arts program, and we're active in supporting each others' work and spreading the word over our various networks.
I'm a member of the Troublemakers, and we do the same.
I'm an alumni member of Sigma Tau Delta.
I'm a member of the International Association of the Fantastics in the Arts and have been for almost a decade.
I'm a member of the Whedon Studies Association.

I do my very best to be friendly and outgoing, even though I'm naturally shy. I like cats, tea, television, going to the movies, spreading literacy around, growing food at home, cooking, eating, making jam, silversmithing, eating seasonally, daydreaming, swimming, thrifting, and chocolate. I'm a compulsive writer, and I'm really okay with that. I travel as much as I can afford. One day, I'll be famous.
